What makes Richfield installs different

Richfield is the smallest of the ten cities we serve, but it has some of the most consistent installation realities. Four things come up again and again:

Panel capacity in Richfield

Most Richfield homes were built between 1945 and 1965 with 60A or 100A service. A handful were upgraded to 150A or 200A over the years. On a 100A panel, whether you can add a 48A charger depends on the appliance load — gas heat and gas appliances help, electric heat and electric cooking make it harder. If the calculation fails, we install a smart load management device or upgrade the service to 200A.

Three outcomes are common on a Richfield assessment:

• 200A service (few homes) → 48A Level 2 charger without a calculation issue.
• 100A service with gas appliances → usually fine for a 32A or 40A charger, often 48A with load management.
• 100A service with electric heat and electric range → a 200A upgrade is often the right answer.

City permits and tuck-under garage runs

New EV circuits in Richfield require an electrical permit through the City of Richfield Community Development department. We pull the permit, schedule the inspection and meet the inspector on site.

Richfield's housing stock creates three distinct install patterns:

• Tuck-under garage installs are common — the charger mounts on the interior wall of the lower level, and the run is usually short because the panel is often already on that level.
• Detached garages require a buried conduit run and possibly a sub-panel at the garage.
