What makes Eagan installs different

Eagan is the largest city in Dakota County, and its fifty-year build-out shows up in the electrical work. Four things shape most Eagan installs:

• Mixed housing stock — some homes on 100A, some on 150A, some on 200A. The load calculation matters more here than in Maple Grove or Eden Prairie.
• Attached garages dominate, which keeps most installs in the short-run category.
• Larger lots and three-car garages in Cedar Grove and Wescott mean longer interior runs along the garage wall.
• Commercial demand along Yankee Doodle Road, Cliff Road and the 494 corridor — workplace and fleet charging installations are common in Eagan.

Because the housing stock varies so much here, we never quote an Eagan install over the phone. The panel is the variable — and the panel is what determines the price.

Panel capacity in Eagan

Eagan's panel sizes depend on when the home was built. Homes from the 1960s and 1970s are often on 100A service — those get the full load calculation first. Homes from the 1980s and 1990s are usually on 150A, which typically supports a 40A or 48A charger once the calculation is run. Homes from 2000 onward are on 200A and rarely need any consideration. The variability here is one reason we do not quote Eagan installs over the phone.

Three outcomes are common on an Eagan assessment:

• 200A service (2000s+ homes) → 48A Level 2 charger without a calculation issue.
• 150A service (1980s–90s homes) → usually fine for a 40A or 48A charger once the calculation clears.
• 100A service (1960s–70s homes) → depends on appliance load; smart load management device or 200A upgrade.

City permits and mixed housing stock

New EV circuits in Eagan require an electrical permit through the City of Eagan Building Inspections division. We pull the permit, schedule the inspection and meet the inspector on site.

Eagan's fifty-year build-out means three different install patterns:

• Circuit run length depends on the home's age and layout — usually 25 to 60 feet.
• Attached garages dominate, so most installs are short-run and finish in a single visit.
